I'd love to get your thoughts about the August 2009 talk by Julie Beck given to CES teachers and administrators Aug 2009. For example:
-what understanding did it stimulate as you thought about core doctrines when viewed from the perspective of the family (beginning on page 2)
-the threats to the family listed made the think about what we can do to assure the joy of family is shared and help youth learn to set goals and work in faith. (p 3+)
-reading Alma 30: 12+ with the family lens was tremendously insightful (p.4+). If we aren't careful, certainly our youth can become a generation that "become a separate people (Mosiah 26)." Separate from the Lord, the church and in the sense of no desire to have a marriage relationship.
-you have to love reading the story of Rebekah & Isaac (Gen 24, p7+ in article). It really made me think about what a difference two people can make in this world. What insights did you find?

I thought about the YM of the church. They are constantly taught and testified to regarding the importance of serving a mission. Many of these YM are from strong families - families that are strong because they have the gospel taught and practiced in their homes. I would imagine it can be impressed upon them the importance of a mission in terms of making families strong and eternal. I don't recall ever hearing that point taught to myself or others. Imagine the power a missionary could have having been taught the gospel through a family perspective, then when being taught the commandment to serve a mission understanding that the call was, in part, to build and strengthen eternal families.
I'm excited to see what results come through preparing and teaching our FHE lessons and daily scripture study with the girls through the family lens.
